THE PLANTS FEEL AND WAIL WHEN THEY ARE EATEN

That animals suffer physically was known, we humans are also animals and we feel pain when we are attacked. What some may not have known until now, is that plants also suffer when they are mutilated or under attack.
A research published in the journal Plos ONE, of the University of Wageningen and the Institute of Ecology in Holland, concluded that some plants, such as black mustard, when they detect the presence of aggressors, emit certain volatile hormonal chemical components to attract certain “Allies”, like wasps, in their help.

The fact that the plants have such a sophisticated defense system is unusual, but even more surprising is what the same investigation showed: plants when they are attacked warn their neighboring plants of the imminent danger, emitting a volatile gas into the air.
When neighboring plants warn of the warning gas, as a preventive response to the imminent danger, they initiate the production of certain toxic chemical substances with an unpleasant taste, in order to deter potential aggressors from their intentions.

THE PLANTS CAN “SPEAK” BETWEEN THEIRSELF

Another study at the University of Western Australia revealed an impressive story: plants emit certain sounds and provoke a response of movement towards other similar sounds.
The research specifically showed how corn respond to certain sounds similar to those emitted by them and are consequently attracted to them.

The experiment consisted of the following: They submerged the roots of some shoots of corn in water. Next, a continuous sound at 220 Hz was emitted in its immediate surroundings, a frequency similar to the rumors that the same plant normally emits. After they observed the reaction, surprisingly the plant grew in the direction of the “familiar” sound.
In a way, could we consider that some plants “speak”? Many would say that rather communicate through a sound, which they consider similar to yours and therefore are attracted to him. But this is not considered talking?

HOW TO INTERPRET THESE SCIENTIFIC DATA

The first impression that comes to mind is that all these are “intelligent” answers. The perception of a potential enemy and the consideration as such are truly predefined defense strategies. Mechanisms to maintain one’s life.
But, can we consider plants to be conscious beings? that is, can we consider plants capable of perceiving an attack or even physical pain having a perception of themselves and the surrounding environment?
Science shows us these incredible facts but also warns us that plants have no nervous system or brain, so the perception of pain, as we understand it would be difficult to prove, for now.

Obviously, the consciousness of themselves, their similes and the environment that surrounds them, that demonstrate in some way the investigations, we can interpret them only at the chemical level, which does not diminish importance and leaves us equally perplexed.
However, as Gian Domenico Campanella (1568-1639) said, all things are self-aware. They are endowed with an innate wisdom, and also with love towards their being and their existence.
Whoever feels the heat or feels the light warns sensitivity, and who adapts to change follows the principle of survival.

THE PLANTS, EXTRAORDINARY BEINGS

Maybe our mistake, as humans, is to try to compare plants to animals, and consequently to ourselves.
Plants by themselves are extraordinary, complex beings at such a level that it is still difficult for us to understand the meaning of their life alone in this world.
We tend to consider them as an essential part of our survival and development, and not as independent beings, which could and do have a purpose of existence in this world.

Giordano Bruno (1548-1600) said that all things can feel, but feel at a different level of sensitivity.
Nature has sensitivity and in some way the idea of a spiritual dimension of all the beings that compose it is always present in our consciousness.
Things as Bruno said, communicate between them. Although the level of consciousness may seem to belong only to man, also the beings we consider “inferior”, such as plants, may have sensitivity.
The things that belong to Nature change, remaining in an eternal dimension. So, the beings do not change, because there is no change of being, but a change of the ways of existing.

This sensitivity is an extraordinary value, a value that in itself deserves our respect and consideration.
Existence by itself is valuable and extraordinary, and as such, we humans as aware beings that we are, we are in the duty to recognize their own dignity also in other beings.
